Dreamy Maternity Session on a Boat | Northern, VA Maternity Photographer

When mom-to-be Holly tossed out the idea of doing her maternity session on a boat on the Potomac River in front of all the Washington, DC monuments, I have to admit that I did kind of a nerdy YASSSSSSS! and fist pump on the other side of the computer screen.  I have some pretty dreamy places to shoot on my photography bucket list (Tahiti, anyone???), and doing a session on a boat was definitely one of them.  :-)

Our original session date rained out, but as always, that worked out for the best because the day of Holly and Dave's maternity session was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT.  Not a cloud in the sky, and mid-80's.  It was like a dream.  

Not only was the weather perfect, but so was this adorable couple.  Holly and Dave just recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary and I could totally see how perfect they are for each other within moments of meeting them.  They stole really sweet glances and Dave kept pushing back a piece of Holly's windswept hair behind her ear.  Too cute for words.  They are first time parents (a little girl is on the way soon!) and that special excitement just swirled in the air around them.

As I walked up the dock, I have to admit my stomach had a few butterflies!  What if I fell off the boat???  Thousands of dollars in gear down the tubes...not to mention the priceless images on my memory cards.  I just kept saying, "Insurance.  I have insurance.  I have insurance."  haha.  Well, let me tell you that as soon as Holly, Dave, and Dave's amazing parents welcomed me onto the boat, I completely felt at ease- part of the family actually!  

We shot a few images on the docks and then cruised on down the Potomac to the most amazing spot right in front of the Lincoln Memorial, with the Washington Monument in the distance.  Holly and Dave shared with me that they watched Fourth of July fireworks in that spot every year and I was blown away!  What a view!!  We hung out for a while just so we could get a shot of the sun setting over the river behind Holly's cute little baby bump.  I'm so glad we did!
